Concrete
Head east on the North Cascades Highway from Sedro-Woolley and you will officially be making your way to what we as locals refer to as “Upriver.” Quietly settled along highway 20 are several small towns including Lyman,Hamilton and Birdsview that make up the 24 mile trek from Sedro-Woolley to Concrete.
These small communities provide travelers perfect pit stops as you head east over the mountains. Refuel your batteries by grabbing a quick bite to eat at the Lyman Tavern or stopping for a cold drink at Birdsview Brewery. For those outdoor enthusiasts, spend the night camping and enjoying the 169-acre Rasar State Park.
A little further up the road you will eventually reach the small historic town of Concrete, named for the cement industry that founded it. Enriched with old buildings and landmarks from its early settlers, the town of Concrete has worked hard over the years to preserve and maintain its storied roots. Enjoy some of this small town’s attractions such as the Saturday Market, the recently reopened Concrete Theater, or by visiting the historic Henry Thompson Bridge that was completed in 1918 and is currently on the National Historic Register.
In keeping up with the rest of Skagit county the town of Concrete is home to several festivals throughout the year including the Fall Festival – Taste & Tour, Mardi Gras in Concrete, Skagit River Bald Eagle Festival, and Cascade Days. So whether you are here visiting or just passing through, these delightful small towns nestled along highway 20 provide the perfect entrance to and from the beautiful North Cascades Park!
